A host of South Auckland rugby clubs will converge on Kingswood Reserve on Saturday for the inaugural South Auckland Rugby Tournament.
Otahuhu, Papatoetoe, Manukau Rovers and East Tamaki will be joined by Waiheke Island for the pre-season tournament at Papatoetoe Rugby Club to celebrate the game in the south Auckland area in a relaxed atmosphere.
The new initiative has been spearheaded by the clubs themselves, with head coaches Barry George (Manukau), Monty Nanai (Papatoetoe), Gary Peach ( East Tamaki) and Luke Mealamu (Otahuhu) joining forces to organise the tournament.
As the chairman of the tournament is the hosting club, Papatoetoe chairman Paul McGuire will chair the event.
Auckland head coach Mark Anscombe will be present to watch the match and select a ‘south Auckland XV’ at the conclusion of the tournament.
