
A big congratulations to Auckland Rugby Union Chair Stu Mather who has been elected independent director of the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZR) board, which was announced today.
Stu brings extensive experience to the role, as a former first-class player and long-term rugby administrator with a passion for rugby and its development at all levels.
We thank Stu, for his years of service to Auckland Rugby, who has been on the board since 2015, and the Chair of Auckland Rugby Union since 2017 until present, as well as a Blues Super Rugby Club director since 2020. Prior to this he held many roles at club level, having served as a COD (council of delegates) since 2006 and chair in 2015.
Stu has been a driving force behind many successful initiatives and developments within the rugby community. His leadership and vision have been instrumental in growing the game and ensuring that rugby remains a central part of NZ’s sporting culture.
The NZR Board plays a critical role in shaping the future of rugby in NZ and ensuring that the sport remains vibrant and sustainable. With Stu’s extensive experience and proven track record of success, he’s the ideal person to move the game forward.
The new Board chair will be elected at the next Auckland Rugby board meeting. In the meantime, we wish Stu all the best in his new role and thank him again for his outstanding contributions to Auckland Rugby.
