The countdown is over. The Gallaher Shield and Senior Club Rugby returns this weekend — and this isn’t just another season. This is a new era.  Auckland Rugby is proud to launch the 2025 Premier Competitions under a bold, reimagined three-division format that promises better rugby, unmatched competition, deeper rivalries, and a more exciting experience for clubs, players, and fans alike.

Backed by overwhelming club support, this new structure isn’t just change for change’s sake — it’s designed to lift the standard of the competition across Auckland and give every club a fair shot at greatness. Whether you're chasing the legendary Gallaher Shield or gunning for promotion glory, every match matters more than ever before.

What’s New in 2025?

• Three-Tier Premiership: Divisions 1 and 2 will feature 10 teams each, while Division 3 expands
• Full Round-Robin Format: More meaningful matchups — every team faces off at least once.
• Top Six Finals & Knockout Cup: More pressure. More pathways. More to play for.
• AR Cup: The cross-division knockout tournament ups the ante for underdogs and powerhouses alike. With Round 1 and Quarter Finals done and dusted, the competition returns Saturday 24 May with Semi Finals followed by the Grand finals on Saturday 7 June.
• Promotion & Relegation That Counts: Clear criteria and real stakes give clubs the chance to rise — or risk the drop.

With the first kick-off just days away, the stage is set. Old rivalries are renewed. New stories will be written. And every club has something to prove. First round kicks off this Thursday 17 April and Saturday 19 April, 2025.
