Papatoetoe Rugby Club is taking their pre-season training to the next level with a Fight Night scheduled for this weekend.

The headline fight will see former Papatoetoe Premier coach Luke Mealamu come up against Dave Letele, better known as the Brown Butterbean. Letele has had several fights on Duco undercards, most recently at Joseph Parker’s title fight.

 Papatoetoe Rugby Development Officer Junior Poluleuligaga said it will be a great way to kick off 2017. 

“We wanted to have an event that was going to create good exposure for the club leading into the 2017 season, that's why we planned to have it early in the year before the season got busy.

 “It was also an opportunity for our players that are fighting for the first time to have a goal to train for that will help them be in a good condition before the season starts,” said Poluleuligaga.

 While Mealamu tops the bill, his wife is also heading into the ring, as is Poluleuligaga.

Remaining fights are filled by Papatoetoe premier and age grade players.

 Club members will be on hand as ushers and several rugby personalities are invited as special guests.
