Unsung Hero: Peter Donnelly

Chances are if you’ve been to the Pakuranga Rugby Club, you would have seen Peter Donnelly.

The club describe Pete, fondly known as Scotty Pete, as a local legend - he is this week's Unsung Hero.

Pakuranga staff member Amanda Dyason said Donnelly doesn’t have much a of playing background himself but found his way to the club when his son started playing.

While Donnelly’s son as graduated from the junior club, Donnelly himself is more involved than ever.

“He spends each Saturday ensuring the club’s ground management duties are taken care of and ensures the orange vest Event Managers are in place,” said Dyason.

“When not on duty by the changing sheds Pete sits on the Senior Rugby Committee at the club and ensures the ever popular “Jimmy’s BBQ” is set up for all major home games.”

“Like all the best people in the game Pete gives his time willingly and totally enjoys meeting the wonderful people that visit the club each weekend.”

In 2016 Donnelly was recognised at the club prizegiving with the Club Members of the Year award.

“To finish off a Saturday he likes nothing better than sitting back and relaxing enjoying a quiet Steinlager.”
