Manukau Rovers are doing a lot of great things on the field, but it’s off field where the biggest changes are happening.
Teaming up with a number of sponsors, the club has had some serious renovations, with new paint, carpet and changing room facilities.
The catalyst for changes has been the relationship with Lite Club, as Manukau Rovers look to reduces water and electricity use and waste.
“The improvements to the facilities should improve sustainability and decrease water consumption, we’ve had it fully operational for a month so should start to see results soon,” said Manukau Rovers’ Pat McGinniss.
Improvements to the toilet facilities, introduction of push-button times showers and energy saving LED lights will all contribute to changes.
LiteClub has previously worked with several Auckland clubs, installing efficient lighting and recycling facilities, but their involvement with Manukau this year is at an increased level. They have worked with more than 200 rugby clubs across the country.
The organisation believes that sports clubs can lead the way in changing the way our communities think about the environment. Their objective is to transform community sports infrastructures so they can become electricity independent, water neutral and zero waste.
McGinniss said the upgrades are just one of many positive things going on at the club. They are currently preparing for their school holiday programme which will be led by premier players Calvary Fonoti and Siosiua Kaifa. Junior numbers have increased in 2017 and the premiers are currently competing in the Alan McEvoy Memorial Shield round.
Their premiers will host table-topping Suburbs at Williams Park tomorrow.
