Big Day Out at Gribblehirst

While the 1A and 1B Finals were going down to the wire, there were over 650 children enjoying an hour of games and fun at Gribblehirst Park on Sandringham Road.

In the first of what’s likely to be an annual event, Auckland Rugby hosted an end-of-season team trip for all junior sides.

Each team was treated to games and activities by Auckland’s ProSport Academy, as well as an opportunity to meet members of the Mitre 10 Cup squad. Getting a photo and autograph was high on the agenda for many kids – big and small.

The afternoon provided an opportunity for all the teams to cap off their season together and also share a meal.

ProSport Teacher, Danny Gautusa said, “being able to participate in a variety of rugby skill stations alongside their friends and getting their team photo taken with the Mitre 10 Cup players”, were the most enjoyable parts of the day for the kids involved.

Mr. Gautusa added that, “having a chance to play alongside (the) Auckland players” was an added highlight that many of them had never experienced before.

The afternoon concluded with a short walk up the road for the Auckland v Northland game. The home side managing to clinch a victory over the men from the north.
