Auckland Rugby Union (ARU) is a forward thinking and innovative organisation responsible for the development of rugby both at the community and professional level within the Auckland Provincial Union area. In delivering a game for all New Zealanders, ARU is committed to encouraging diversity and inclusion across gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and religion.
The Auckland Rugby Union invites applications for two positions as Independent Board Members.
ARU’s constitution requires the retirement by rotation of two directors at this year’s AGM. Retiring director Greg Edmonds will be seeking re-election. Retiring director Peter Thompson will not be seeking re-election.
ARU endeavors to have a diverse board, with the composition of directors having a wide range of backgrounds and expertise. Directors are expected to have a strong background in strategic thinking, business acumen, governance, to be of sound character, and engaged with, and passionate about, rugby.
It is imperative that nominees can also demonstrate a keen interest and understanding of the amateur rugby environment. In addition, nominees may also possess specific strengths in high performance sport, finance, organisational/business development and marketing/communications, amongst others.
Note, applicants will require endorsement from a Club, Sub Union, Referees Association or Advisory Committee of the Auckland Rugby Union as required by Rule 7 (viii) of the Constitution and Rules.
The position is voluntary, however Directors do receive membership privileges at Eden Park. The time involved is subject to individual Director’s availability and typically involves two to three meetings a month.
Closing date for nominations is 5pm, Friday 29th September 2017.
Invited nominees will be required to attend a meeting of the Appointments Committee at a date to be advised in early to mid October.
Selected Nominees will be invited to address the November meeting of the Council of Delegates being held on Wednesday 1st November 2017 and will also have an opportunity to address the Annual General Meeting being held on Monday 11th December 2017.
